About bloody time too. When I was a young pup and the Group B supercars had just been banned, there was a young charger called Mark Rennison who drove an RS200 hard the the British Rallycross Championship. From memory, he was the youngest ever Rallycross Champion at 19 years old and also the only driver ever to win every Superfinal that year, though if I’m wrong, let me know.
After that, he just disappeared. Nothing. Now, a press release lands in my inbox telling me he’s back, this time taking Stig Blomqvist’s place in a Pike’s Peak Hillclimb RS200 for a British team called Mach 2 Racing.
The plan is to break the ten minute barrier this month by using this heavily developed RS200 with Rennison behind the wheel. With an engine built by Geoff Page Racing and developing 950Bhp before the nitrous is turned on, it should be pretty rapid. Pikes Peak rises to 14,000 feet above sea level, so a hybrid Garret turbo is used to maintain performance as the course climbs with a three minute shot of Nitrous giving 1150 bhp for the final charge and there’s a huge aero package added to the bodywork to help hold the thing down. Not sure whether to post this one under ‘driving’ or ‘flying’….
We’ll be following the team’s progress and giving you the full spec of the car a little later. If Rennison’s being getting his eye back in with his left foot braking, the in-car should be quite a view. Go get em, feller.
Rennison – Back in the RS200!
